Energy Industrialization in Bolivia and the Globalization of New World Orders

Publié le 30 octobre 2019 Mis à jour le 31 octobre 2019

This talk will examine ongoing research in Bolivia as part of a 4-year project (2019-2023) funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

The project is following the development and implementation of the government’s ambitious “Patriotic Agenda 2025,” which makes the industrialization of lithium and nuclear energy the centerpieces of national economic planning and the provision of social goods. In particular, the talk will focus on the globalized assemblages that are implicated in Bolivia’s energy industrialization, including China’s “Belt and Road Initiative,” Russia’s lesser known monopolization of the global nuclear construction portfolio, and the EU’s efforts to secure direct access to lithium as part of its plans to rapidly mandate the use of electronic vehicles throughout the Euro zone.
