ULB PhD Day 2026

Le 6 février 2026, le Département de soutien à la recherche et à l’innovation organise une journée d’information bilingue (FR/EN) sur le campus du Solbosch (Bâtiment R), entièrement dédiée à nos doctorant·es en début, milieu ou fin de parcours. Les postdocs ou les promoteur·rices peuvent aussi être intéressé·es par certaines sessions.

Tout au long de la journée, plusieurs thématiques clés seront abordées à travers des sessions parallèles en français et en anglais :

• Les grandes étapes du parcours doctoral à l’ULB
• Les ressources de bien-être
• La recherche responsable et l’intégrité scientifique
• La gestion des données de recherche et les publications
• La mobilité internationale pendant le doctorat
• La valorisation de la recherche

Mais ce n’est pas tout : l’édition 2026 vous réserve quelques nouveautés !

Les nouveautés marquantes

1) Keynote speech sur la valeur ajoutée du doctorat

La matinée débutera par une conférence plénière en anglais intitulée “Added Value of the PhD: Insights from PhD Holders and Employers”, présentée par l’Observatoire de la Recherche et des Carrières Scientifiques (ORCS) du FNRS. Cette intervention proposera un regard croisé sur les compétences développées durant le doctorat et leur reconnaissance sur le marché de l’emploi, tant académique que non académique.

2) Des stands pour rencontrer les services de l’ULB

De 12h30 à 16h, un espace stands sera ouvert dans l’atrium, une occasion privilégiée pour renforcer votre réseau au sein de l’institution. Vous pourrez y rencontrer directement les équipes et obtenir des informations personnalisées auprès des services suivants :

• Ressources humaines (statuts, contrats-bourses, bien-être, égalité)
• Relations internationales (mobilité, Welcome Desk)
• Communication (Pôle Recherche)
• Département de soutien à la recherche et à l’innovation (Cellule doctorat, Cellule Europe, ULB Knowledge Transfer Office)
• Représentations syndicales et du corps scientifique
• Gestionnaires facultaires de doctorat

3) Deux panels de discussion

L’après-midi laissera place aux échanges avec deux panels thématiques en français, ouverts aux questions des participant·es :

• La carrière après le doctorat
  Un panel pour explorer la diversité des parcours possibles, ainsi que les possibilités de formations et de développement de compétences.
• La communication vers la société : pourquoi ? Comment ?
  Un espace de dialogue autour des enjeux de la diffusion des savoirs, de la méditation scientifique et des pratiques concrètes de communication de la recherche vers la société.

On 6 February 2026, the Research and Innovation Support Department is organising a bilingual (FR/EN) information day on the Solbosch campus (Building R), entirely dedicated to our doctoral candidates at the beginning of their PhD, as well as those in the middle and at the end of it. Postdocs and PhD supervisors may also be interested in certain sessions.

Throughout the day, several key topics will be addressed in parallel sessions in French and English:

• The main stages in the doctoral process
• Well-being resources
• Responsible research and scientific integrity
• Research data management and publications
• International mobility during your PhD
• Research Valorisation and Knowledge Transfer

But that's not all: the 2026 edition has a few new features in store for you!

New highlights

1) Keynote speech on the added value of a PhD

The morning will begin with a plenary conference in English entitled "Added Value of the PhD: Insights from PhD Holders and Employers", by the FNRS's Observatory for Research and Scientific Careers (ORCS). This presentation will offer a comparative perspective on the skills developed during a PhD and their recognition in the academic and non-academic job markets.

2) Stands to meet ULB services

From 12:30 to 16:00, a stand area will be open in the atrium, providing an excellent opportunity to strengthen your network within the institution. You will be able to meet the teams directly and obtain personalised information from the following services:

• Human Resources (status, scholarship contracts, well-being, equality)
• International Office (mobility, Welcome Desk)
• Communication Office (Research Unit)
• Research and Innovation Support Department (Research Opportunities in Europe, Knowledge Transfer Office, PhD Support)
• Union and scientific staff representatives
• Faculty PhD managers

3) Two panel discussions

The afternoon will include two panel discussions in French, open to questions from participants:

• Careers after a PhD
  A panel discussion exploring the diversity of possible career paths, as well as training and skills development opportunities.
• Communication towards society: Why? How?
  A space for dialogue on the challenges of knowledge dissemination, scientific mediation and concrete practices for communicating research to society.
